September 18, 2008: Flood Recovery Update

CRANDIC is back to near-normal business operations following the June flood. Here are the latest updates:

• A preliminary bridge design has been approved, and CRANDIC is in the final permitting/design process with regulatory agencies. The main steel components have been purchased, and construction should start this fall and wrap up by mid-2009.

• Several of our Cedar Rapids customers are still out of service. Alliant Energy recently announced that Sixth Street Generating Station will rebuild using 80 percent coal-fired generation, pending the negotiation of several key contracts. If that occurs, service will resume in late 2009. Prairie Creek Generating Station expects to be back on-line in early 2009.

The construction causeway is all that remains at the site of the Cedar River Bridge. A new bridge will be built in the same location.
